'Cuff and Sammy' CD

'Cuff and Sammy' featuring Cuff Billett and Sammy Rimington. For a few years in the 1960s and 1970s they guested regularly with the New City Jazzmen in Crawley, sometimes together but often singly. Two of the sessions with both present (one at the Grasshopper Pub and the other at the Floodlite Club) were recorded by New City trombonist Ron Westcott.
This CD contains a selection of the music played. On it you can hear two superb jazzmen letting their hair down in front of a friendly audience. Have any other British jazzmen, before or since, got together and produced more exciting jazz than this?

'I Like Bananas' with Don Oliver on vocals.

If you take the B2112 road out of Haywards Heath in West Sussex the last building on the right before open country beckons is The Fox & Hounds. This was the venue at which hundreds of jazz sessions took place between the years 1966 and 1977 featuring many famous names. Under the aegis of landlord Chris Worrall, his wife Anne and trombonist Mike Collier the Fox became known as the Sunday night jazz spot. The New City Jazzmen appeared there 70 times and this CD features the band live in one of their performances in 1973

'To Be Collected' CD

'To Be Collected' is in part a reissue and in part a new recording. The original New City Jazzmen LP (Flyright 206) was released in 1978. Because of continuing interest in that recording it has been decided to reissue it on CD.
Six new tracks have been added and feature the vocal talents of Penny Payne. Penny has a fine understanding of the traditional jazz genre and demonstrates this clearly on this recording. Once again she sings a wide range of numbers, a hymn,  a rolling blues, two love songs and two burlesque numbers with swing, intense feeling and, where necessary, the right amount of exuberance.

A new book by BERNARD HODGSON

A new book by BERNARD HODGSON

A bunch of jazz fans came together 46 years ago and decided to form a band. The years went by, popular music underwent a revolution, 10th, 20th, 30th  and 40th anniversaries of the band came and went and suddenly it dawned on us that one day it would end. Bernard Hodgson decided to write it all down before it was too late. The result is ÎNew City Jazzmen the storyâ, nearly 100 pages, 20,000 words and 120 illustrations, a beautifully produced piece of social history.
